I've found this post off from one of the discussions at LinkedIn, by a guy named Amol from UK. What he said made sense and its actually what we should be practicing for all this time as entrepreneurs. Learn how to make the million dollars through this article:

Making a million is an idea that appeals to us all, be that a million dollars, pounds, yen or whatever currency your country uses. But unless you’re currency is practically worthless it’s not an easy task.

In fact, making a million is a bit like eating an elephant, it’s a hugely daunting task, but if you’ve ever heard anyone ask:

How do you eat an elephant?

Then you’ll know that the answer is: one bite at a time.

So how does eating an elephant help you make a million dollars?

Well here’s an approach that seems to have worked for Warren Buffett. For those that don’t know of him, he is one of the richest men in the world, with an estimated wealth of $47 Billion dollars in 2010. In other words, for those of you wondering how many millions make a billion, Warren Buffett has made a million dollars 47,000 times over!

According to the biography of Warren Buffett (The Snowball by Alice Schroeder, an excellent book that anyone wanting to make a million and become financially free should read), Buffett’s inspiration for making his first million came from an old book called One Thousand Ways To Make $1,000. As Buffett is a bit of maths whizz he instantly recognised that the title meant that the book explained how to make a million dollars.

The genius of the book however is that instead of trying to make a million dollars in one go (which is hard) it was approaching the task in steps – one bite at a time! The goal of each step being to make $1,000. Do that one thousand times and you would have made a million dollars (or pounds for us Brits).

Warren Buffett’s understanding of mathematics also helped him realise that when it comes to how to make a million quick, it’s much easier to start with money to invest than it is to start from nothing. In other words he realised that by re-investing every cent, dollar or pound that he made from his businesses into growing the businesses or starting a new business he would make more money faster. In short he recognised that a dollar today, could be worth ten dollars in a year’s time, so he was very frugal, spending as little as possible in order to re-invest everything.

As he’s now made not just a million dollars, but 47,000 of them it’s hard to argue against his approach!

How to make millions with your ideas?

So what if you already have a business, a business idea or a product? Well there’s no reason that the one thousand steps all have to be unique. In fact if you’ve got a product that sells for one thousand dollars and you can sell a thousand or more of them, then just do it! That’s what running a successful business is all about.

If you haven’t then make what you can off each idea and when it’s exhausted move on to the next business idea.

Entrepreneurs Startup: Passion or Profits?

Over the past month or so, I hoisted up a poll to find out how many entrepreneurs, like-minded business people and money-making individuals (freelancers included), would one day open up shop based on the kind of intention they have.

And here are the results:

• 20% - Voted for Passion
• 10% - Voted for Profits
• 70% - Voted for Both

The third choice was not supposed to be there but I believe that is where I wanted to be anyways just as the other 70% of the Bruneian Dollar public voted.

How Do You Talk To Kids About Money?

Last year during Ramadhan, I met my little cousins and we break fast together. And it was interesting that they were playing "restaurant" after Sungkai. I observed how they behaved (often to just come up with a new idea to write about but later forgotten till now.): customer comes in, orders a food, pays the meal, and leave. A simple business restaurant process until I asked the little restaurant manager, "How much are you making?". He guessed and claimed to have made, " $1000!!". Very cute when I tried to run the numbers on my laptop's excel program. The only way to reach such number during Sungkai time, i.e. 6pm till 12am (yes, they do this every night and it was fun to watch), is that the meal must be priced at $25 each for 4 customers and do 10 rounds to achieve the target profit. Now I don't wanna spoil their fun with realistic numbers and with better management, marketing and all those business jargons. So it made me wonder, how do parents or anyone talk to their children about money?

Introducing A New Member To Bruneian Dollar Contributor

Ladies and Gentlemen (and Entrepreneurs), allow me to introduce to you, Biz Buzz (that's his pen name). He will be one of Bruneian Dollar's contributor to write about business articles. I started off as a Science student as compared to Bruneian Dollar being in college, but for A Level's, I switched to business studies. So I had taken Management of Business and Accounting and I think that's where my interest in businesses kicked off. Was absolutely fascinated by it. I went on to enter the Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. After the first 2 years, I managed to get granted a scholarship to University of Queensland and graduated with a degree in Commerce.

When I returned to Brunei, I had no idea what kind of a career I wanted to go for. Starting a business has always been on my mind, but I knew with a lack of finance and experience, it would be a bad idea. So I was still young and had much to learn. To gain such experience would be going through jobs like at a company that allows me to meet businessmen (and women) face-to-face and learn about their businesses first-hand. I've handled businesses in a variety of industries but I don't claim to be an expert as I still think I have much to learn, even after more than a few years being in this line of career. My job is to try and help them to improve their cash flow in order for them to survive, repay their obligations and increase profit margins.

What I can tell you from my experiences and observation from these businesses in order to be successful, you need to sacrifice something for a higher value. If your goal is to succeed, you need to give up many things, whether tangible or not and that is a fact. There can be painful decisions to be made, however, these are all part and parcel of being in business. And I believe that, all's fair in war and that business is the survival of the fittest.

And such, I will give some insider tips on the things that aspiring entrepreneurs should know about before starting up a company and after.

Entrepreneurs Rock Job Creation And The Time Is Now

Spotted something interesting in the news today. Sounds like an opportunity for experienced entrepreneurs and business people to teach the young'ens about proper start-ups and business ventures. This was published on The Brunei Times Newspaper today:


Youths' involvement in entrepreneurship must continue to be encouraged through training and education, as a solid understanding of this area can help reduce unemployment among youths, said His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

Delivering his titah during the Fifth National Youth Day at the National Indoor Stadium yesterday, His Majesty said the training provided can be formal or informal to ensure that youths' understanding of entrepreneurship can be a trigger for entrepreneurial activities

"From how I see it, our youths must be nurtured with the view to making them big-hearted and ambitious towards the success of our socio-economic development," His Majesty said.

Speaking on the theme of the Fifth National Youth Day "Entrepreneurship as Catalyst to Self-Reliant Youth" the monarch said that the field of entrepreneurship was not easy, as it was full of competition and challenges.

"In order to succeed, youths must have inner strength and be strong-spirited," His Majesty said.

His Majesty believes that with this inner strength, youths would be more hardworking, willing to go all out and be durable, thereby becoming ideal assets for the country.

"Such youths will not view difficulties as a barrier to success, but instead it would make them tough and competitive," His Majesty added.

The sovereign further said that the future of Brunei depended heavily on youths, who needed to be equipped with the skills to prepare themselves for competition and challenges.

"This is why I often stress that youth training programmes, specifically those covering entrepreneurship, must be strengthened, especially business and financial management as well as marketing," His Majesty added.

His Majesty said with the skills acquired, youths will be independent without hoping for any assistance.

This is also consistent with the National Youth Policy that encourages youths to participate in various activities, especially economic activities.

"All this is intended for us to create a more dynamic economic development together towards achieving Vision 2035," His Majesty said.

His Majesty also reminded everyone that Islamic guidelines in entrepreneurship and the business ethics of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) should not be forgotten, as the latter achieved success in his business through perseverance and courage. "This ethic should not altogether be ignored, it is then that Allah (SWT) will help us with his gift of grace in the form of wages and profits, Insyallah," the monarch said.
