So as I was browsing around giving me better ways to help with the promotion. I found one that was very interesting. It's called TVKitani by DST Group. It's a wonderful programme they made. Sort of like youtube except it's on mobile.

As I was curious to know more about it, my mind wonders along and suddenly it hit me like a cat getting roadkill along Jalan Tutong. Ok, I'm sorry. I guess that was mean but you get my point.

The point is that you should be able to take advantage of this outstanding offer. You get to send in your videos and have your friends, family, colleagues and relatives to watch your videos and you can do all this for free! And what can you do with it? There's plenty and allow me to list it.

• Do some comedy skits. Anything to make other people laugh. Take for example Youtube's Best Comedian: Fred or Someone with at least being sensible: Raywilliamjohnson. If they can do it, so can you.
• Do some educational skits with an added entertainment. Like House series. Sure it's like drama and stuff but you do get to hear in their discussion about the kinds and types of diseases and performing the diagnosis on several interesting patients.
• Do some cool action skits. If you're the type who loves to make things explode, fight bad ninjas, and car racing (movie magic style and not for real), then do some action series episodes. Though you may need to do some active editing before submitting your video to DST. Why I even suggest this is to release the potential from Bruneians to use special computer tricks to make the videos of great quality to send over to DST. An example of a cool movie effect would be this video: Ryan vs Dorkman
• Do a webshow. You may or may not have seen it but there are plenty of webshows out there. Some has some quality things to show and some doesn't. It's a cool way to strut your stuff. I'm planning to do some of it but it may take a while as I need to plan for at least a month worth of scripting for a trial run. Some of greatest webshows are on youtube, so why don't you check them out and see if you got what it takes to be the next TV Host! Please note, some of the shows has mild foul languages, viewer discretion is advised: RaywilliamJohnson and Shane Dawson TV.
• Do a series of show on any reviews. This one is particularly difficult since it requires you to go out more often than staying inside your house to make the content of your videos. Because you need to make some reviews on a particular product or service and let the company or the business owner knows what you think about it and need to take it seriously. This one idea is quite attractive to become a critic of a special field. It can be a Gadget Reviewer, Food Critic, Art Critic, etc.

Half Of The Things You Know From School Is OBSOLETE!

So it has been several months since I graduated from University and College and it made me realize that the difference in knowledge of what I knew back then and now has something to do with the environment.

Everyone understands the meaning of "change" and why we have to go through it. But somehow, I'm writing this article because I wanted to remind all of us including me that we have to keep changing as time goes by.

For example, you have finished med school for four years. And by the time you graduated, half the things you learned became obsolete. Procedures are now moving forward to better and safer methods to treat patients.

Likewise for business students as well as IT students. Whatever it is you learn in college or university, it is never enough and usually it always ends up the same way in the end. Losing half of your effort and time to gain the special skills to perform at your best of knowledge in your specialized field and ended up being obsolete because of one thing that threatens our society. One word - "Change"

So I suppose when looking at not just ourselves but also our dear small country, Brunei Darussalam, we need a lot of change. And let not it hinder you from your goal but embrace it. We all need to be kept updated every now and then. Just like our computers and antiviruses that we bought off Kedai Communist or just downloading free ones still requires updating and changes in order to further improve our IT equipments.

Changing requires effort on our part. Whether it be adapting to a new environment, or learning a new skill, or moving from relationship to another, or even getting better a new stuff that would make your life easier. Some of us may dislike the idea of constantly changing but its for the best.

Freelancing Skill: Voice Talent

For those of you who doesn't have the skills that can be made online, think again. Use your voice to reach your target audience. And when I mean voice, I really mean using your speaking skills.

Now I bet you have already seen cartoon movies or episodes or at least some animation or if you're a Bruneian, anime, where you watch cartoons and voice actors play out as their respective characters in the story or series. Such project in animation requires the right artists, animators, directors, producers and especially voice actors.

There are plenty of businesses out there in the world of entertainment and this is one of them. You could start one up but if you have no idea where, I can recommend putting it up on flash animation sites like:

• Flash Portal (www.flashportal.com)

That's just a couple of sites where I often go to when I was *ahem ahem* younger and bring some entertainment to my boring life. And as I go around watching how well they work, it surprises me that they can deliver quality for free. It's like youtube except it's meant for those who are flash animators.

For flash animators, they work around the clock to make the animation perform exactly to their storyboard. For voice actors/actresses, they have to act exactly to the scene. So to those would be actors/actresses, flash animation can lead you somewhere.

The point to this is that, you would not need to act on queue. Like cry on the spot or get really angry on the spot or anything of that sort that requires you to perform perfectly without retaking the scene. However, as a voice actor/actress, there's more to that. You can voice act as a baby, a kid, a teenager, an adult, a senior or even different creatures. This is the great advantage over traditional filming where it takes millions and billions of dollars to pay for each extras or characters to play the part or even pay for the costumes.

Voice acting is one method to freelance. Another method would be podcasting. It's a simple method of recording one's voice and upload it online. Where others can just listen to your words instead of reading. Which becomes an advantage to the blind Internet surfers.

No idea what to podcast? Why not do public speaking about a random topic? Do a stand-up (or sit-down) comedy online. Do an International Debate with someone overseas. Conversation with another over a radio online. Etc.

And why stop with voice acting and podcasting? There's also singing! You've already probably seen others posting up their videos of themselves singing a song on Youtube. So do the same thing and there's bound to be a record breaking opportunity for your singing talent. However, it is a slim chance since not everyone has that great talent to sing perfectly.

$2,918 In 55 Hours With A Blog - How It Was Done

Don't think I'm lying because no Bruneians could actually obtain that figure in 55 hours. However, a fellow problogger did it! I'm not saying you should believe everything I or he says. I'm saying give it a shot of consideration. I'm sure something pops into your mind why I bother posting this article up anyways. *Cough* Marketing *Cough cough* :P

So here's his post by David Risley:

"Yes, this last Black Friday weekend, I ran a special (as pretty much everybody does) and I brought in almost 3-grand in a little over 48 hours. I thought I would give you the scoop on how it was done. It is so insanely easy, and the marketing behind it is just about as simple as it gets.

The special began on Friday at a little after 1PM EST when I sent out my first email to themailing list. On Sunday at 3AM EST, I sent a “final notice” to let them know the deal was coming to a close. The deadline was 8PM EST on Sunday. Why 8PM? Because it would be easy to pop onto the computer after dinner and turn the special off. And why did I send the last notice at 3AM? So that the people on the west coast would be after midnight and I could tell them that the special was ending on the same day (more urgency).

So, in total, the entire promo consisted of 2 emails to the list, and about 15 minutes of work on the site itself. I think I had about 45 minutes of my time in this promotion – total.

Here’s how it was done…

The deal was 30% off of the yearly membership. There was clear urgency because of the pending deadline. And just to drive that home, I put a timer on the top of the sales page to count down to 8PM on Sunday. I also made clear the money-back guarantee (which is always there). I also made clear that there would be no renewals (no obligation or contract, as some people perceive membership sites). I didn’t disable renewals so much as part of the deal, but mainly because the refund rates on yearlys seems to be higher anyway (members forget after a year).

Also, the emails I sent to the list were low-key. I was not in sales mode, really. I just told them what the deal is. And by telling them I wasn’t in sales mode and that I’d rather be with my family (all of which was true – after all this was Thanksgiving), it enhances empathy. It is also a pattern interrupt from all the overt marketing people get around Black Friday.

As usually happens, people wait until the last minute. The last day saw over half of the total sales, many of them coming in the last few hours.

Here are the “take-away’s” you should employ in your own marketing:

1. Always employ urgency in your marketing. It drives people to take action. Give them a reason to act and a clear deadline.
2. Visually show the deadline with a timer. It works.
3. Give a reason why. Every time I conduct a promotion like this, it is tied to an event (such as me traveling). This time, the event was obvious – Black Friday. Everybody was in a retail mood (the society more or less trains it into them). Take advantage of it.
4. Tie a membership site in with your blog. Marketed right with quality content and it will turn into a cash cow.
5. You need a mailing list. The reason this promotion was so easy was because I had an established mailing list. Without it, it would have gone over like a fart in church.

So, there you go. A small behind-the-scenes look at a recent promo. Pretty simple stuff, actually."

Awesome as to how he made it sound so easy that we can accomplish that figure as well if we tried. :)

Stabilizing Income: The Easy Way

One of the secrets to running a successful freelance business is to

occasionally borrow and apply great ideas and strategies from other

types of businesses to your own freelance practice.

For instance, over the last few years I've been working with

clients who market technology products and services to manufacturers.

One of the things I've learned is that manufacturers schedule their

production runs extremely well.

An idle production line can cost manufacturers thousands of dollars a

day in overhead and opportunity costs. So knowing how to fill that

unused capacity is critical. That's why they'll often spend

millions on planning and forecasting technology.

As freelancers, we may not be churning out widgets, but we face a

very similar dilemma. We're moving along at full capacity for a few

weeks. We complete a project or two and suddenly find ourselves with

time for more work. A smart and steady prospecting strategy can help

offset much of this ebb and flow. But it won't completely eliminate

it. So what do you do if you find yourself with idle time?

Simple. You proactively reach out to your clients and hot prospects

and present this as an opportunity.

Here's How This Works

Say you're a graphic designer and you know one of your clients will

soon be going through a major rebranding effort. If you know you're

about to have a few weeks of idle time or excess capacity, why not

discuss this availability to see if you can start working on some

preliminary tasks?

Or maybe you're a writer and you have a client who usually hires

you to write a white paper about once every quarter. You could mention

your upcoming availability and see if you can start work on the next

piece a few weeks sooner.

This strategy is also ideal when a client puts a project on hold at

the last minute. Say the project is still a "go," but it's now

been pushed back a few weeks. Rather than let that availability go to

waste, I will often contact another client about this unexpected

opening in my schedule and ask if I can help complete a project in the

queue.

Upcoming vacations can also present an opportunity to fill idle time.

A couple of years ago, I took two weeks off in July. Rather than wait

until early July to let my clients know, I contacted them all in early

May. I gave them plenty of notice and encouraged them to look at their

project queues to see if I could get started on something.

This resulted in three projects that kept me very busy until I left

for my vacation, which was great because work was a bit light at the

time. I avoided the stress of dealing with new project requests coming

in a few days before leaving town. And my clients benefited by getting

the work on time.

Now, there are five keys to making this strategy work well. Follow

them all and you'll keep your "factory" humming all year long.

1. Keep and Maintain a Project Schedule. Don't try to keep this

stuff in your head. Use a spreadsheet, white board or large desk

calendar -- whatever works best. You can't forecast accurately if

you don't have a clear view of what you're working on now and what

lies ahead.

2. Think "Value Add," Not "Help Me!" Don't beg for work.

And don't sound like you're on some sort of fishing expedition.

Position your request in a way that benefits the client. You're not

asking for a favor. You're bringing an opportunity to the table --

an opportunity for the client to get ahead on some work that will need

to be completed anyway.

3. Use a Soft Approach. Don't come across as pushy. Keep it low

key. In fact, spend some time practicing your delivery. Record what

you're going to say, and make sure that it sounds sincere and

well-intentioned.

4. Explain the Reason for Your Offer. Just as important, make sure to

explain the reason for your sudden availability. As long as they're

true, reasons such as the ones mentioned earlier (upcoming vacation, a

current project put on hold, etc.) are effective and keep you from

sounding like you're begging for work.

5. Don't Abuse It. Approaching a client once or twice a year with

such a request is about right. Any more frequently and you'll come

across as desperate and unprofessional.

Taking a more proactive approach to your workload is good business.

Plus, it will help even out your income and reduce the stress that

comes from having too much time on your hands...and not enough money

in the bank!"

Establish a Contract is like an Aladdin and Genie thing.

Back in college years, I had classmates who have trouble learning the subject Principles of Business Law. The reasons may be that they weren't interested or hard to understand it. While that, I extremely find it interesting and I enjoy learning it. That is if you cut out the history part of how such law came to be.

So I had to help them to learn the basics and fundamentals of Business Law before our exams. During our group study, they had lots of questions on how this and that works or what does any of these Latin words means or in what situation can it be applied to. So I made it easy and told them something so simple that even you can understand. It's like algebra.

1x + 1x = 2x will be our example. Now to those who are studying algebra, it can be a problem if you don't understand how that equation works. 1x + 1x will always equal to 2x. Not 2xx or 2x². But that's how the young human mind may see it as it does seem logical. But what if we replace the "x" with an apple? Then it would be 1 apple + 1 apple is equal to 2 apples, not 2 apple apple or 2 apple².

Business law is like Aladdin and Genie. The magic lamp is the company or product where Aladdin happens to stumble upon and decided to satisfy his curiosity by rubbing the lamp. Aladdin is the customer or a visitor to Genie but since Aladdin has rubbed the lamp, that's called "Commercial Agreement". Commercial agreement is like walking into the convenient store and buy yourself a canned drink. Whatever purchase you make it's already an agreement between you and the company that manufactures and sells that product to the public.

As Aladdin has been briefed by Genie's speech of selling himself to Aladdin that he has 3 wishes. That is called an "offer". It's a promise made from one party to the other and Aladdin wanted it. The only promise Aladdin has to make is to make the wishes that he wants to.

However, if you listen and watch carefully at the Aladdin movie, Genie has these rules to what kind of wishes that Aladdin can't wish for. These are called "Terms of Use". That's the time when Aladdin asked him about "Wish fulfillment". His terms of use are:

• You can't wish for more wishes.
• Can't be reclaimed nor refund.

These are also called "Disclaimers" in the real modern world. Disclaimers are used widely as a warning note for companies who tells people that they are not allowed to sue them for false advertising or misrepresentation. A real example, when performing forex trading online, you should notice that every single one of them has a disclaimer for Trading at your own risk. So that when you do trade at Forex, they are not held responsible for any financial loss and only you to blame for irresponsible trading.

And if you also notice when Genie sat next to Aladdin on a rock to tell him a few warnings to how powerful his wishes are, that he can't fulfill some wishes as of the following:

• You can't wish to bring people back from the dead.
• You can't wish to get people killed.
• You can't wish to get someone to fall in love with anybody else.

They are known as "Injunction". Injunctions are a way that the company will not be held responsible for any "inconveniences" caused while performing their services or selling their product. For example, a hotel has an injunction stating that they are not responsible for any theft or accidents in the customer's room(s) during their stay. Useful to let people know that you can't always be relied on when something goes wrong. :)

A Wise Education is a Wise Investment

When it comes to getting a job or in one, you tend to be busy. Especially as a Freelancer, where your online reputation is on the line when you need to finish a project or two and get paid via Escrow or Paypal. And also, to fit the bill by the end of the month, you barely have time to do anything else.

Speaking of time, I don't think busy people who have lives to live and bills to pay would even have the chance to continue their education. The courses are free, you can learn at your own pace and take as long as you need to. The only thing you need to pay is the exam fee. Plus, if you did pass the exam, you will receive a certificate of the course you passed for.

So what are you waiting for? Start learning online or offline. I'm sure that you can be successful with the right education in mind for your dream job.

Getting Yourself Popular

Getting popular is complicated especially when you have to deal with the human mind and their behavior. It's not easy but there are ways. So far, I've noticed over the years of how to get famous or popular is by doing either 2 simple and yet general ways: Doing Good Deeds or doing Bad Deeds.

Simple as that but allow me to explain.

1. Doing Good Deeds

Description

Performing the acts of a saint and the generosity and kindness they get from you is already well-known. This kind of act that gets people popular is best when there's times of need or when the public or several areas of the world that needs assistance. Once that is done, you will have those people thinking,"Wow! What a nice fellow! I won't forget his/her kind and noble act of goodness." And sometimes, they would recommend others of you and/or tell tall stories of how kind and well-intent person you are.

Benefits

Effectiveness will be slow in a few months or years of doing good deeds and spreading it around. But when the time comes, it will show its full effectiveness. That's how Robin Hood did it. And now he's a legend!

2. Doing Bad Deeds

Description

The evil stuff and actions has already made by the public media nowadays are labeling it as "cool". These "cool" actions are actually quite beneficial if you know what you were doing. But it has its dire consequences. By performing acts of evil or committing sins is actually asking for trouble. But of course, when everyone knows what happens to one person who is committing a crime or doing anything wrong that is noticed by the public it gets to go live by newspapers and media or gossips. It gets even very popular to those immediate surroundings of that subject. Whether the crime befalls a country, a person, a company, etc, it gets instant popularity because the public needs to know that a crime has happened and everyone needs to either avoid that entity.

Benefits

Very effective but however, it only last as long as the bad deed continues or until it has been punished for it or gone missing after a while. But it does bring a lot of popularity very easily and probably overpower the one that has been doing good deeds as well. But it will last shorter than that of the Good Deeds.

The reason why I even suggest doing bad deeds, is that you can do it with a prepared agreement between both parties. I had this idea when I was watching and reading the news about wars happening in the middle east. Somehow it kind of clicked my mind that there are lots of people more concerned about this war than any other matter. Especially in those countries that is involved in the war, are not even aware or afraid of the disease epidemic of H1N1 Virus that's been spreading around. So to my observation, a fight between both entities can bring up a lot of popularity.

Now in contrast to blogging, that strategy can also be applied to gain traffic. Make an agreement with a popular blog, start a fight or war with each other, last for a week or so, send message that both of you are in peaceful agreement, and there you have it. Full heavy traffic but it comes with a cost however.

You get spams, hateful messages probably, ways to shut you down or discourage you, etc. And worse of all, a stain on your public image. So it depends on you.

"How to manage events" by The Bruneian Dollar

So everyone loves an "event". It usually just brings excitement and have people pin it on the calender and say,"Hey, I got something to do this weekend!". Events are a special time and hosted by organizers to gather people by invitations and enjoy together. So much fun that it can also be considered as a party! Want to have a business meeting to cover up some marketing sales or go over the last week report? Call a party! Want some product that needs promotion and make the quota sales by the end of the month? Call a party! Need a tournament against other counter-strike teams? Call a party! Just graduated? Call a PARTY!

Organizing and managing that the event or party runs its course without fail is crucial to the hosts and organizers of the event. So if you want to host an event or party, you have to do the following:

• What is it about?

Of course there has to be a purpose behind everything and the reason why. Who knows? Are you throwing a party just to get that special girl that you like in class or at work, or are you organizing an event just to show your boss that you can handle a better job managing resources? Whatever your reason and purpose may be, it needs to be clear and sufficient for your time, effort and money.

• When is it?

Time is very important. You don't want to host an event that is either too soon or too late. It needs to be timed right especially that it needs to be timed at a perfect open opportunity where everyone or most people you know (target demographic or group) will show up on a clear schedule of their lifetime. Do it on a school holiday, public holiday, weekends, weeknight, etc. Do it when people are available at that time and you can be rest assured, people will attend the event.

• The Invites

When it comes to promotion of a certain event or party, the invite needs to be either selective or open. Just because you're throwing a promotional event where you're selling a car to the public, doesn't mean you have to invite kids under-age to see the car show. Sure it may attract their attention and tell their parents to buy it but it's not really their decision to make the purchase now is it? When you promote an event or a party, you have to be selective or open depending on it's type. Be wise.

Furthermore, when it comes to invitation before the event, it needs to be aggressively communicated with that target audience. To make sure that they get the message and give them the consideration to come for your hard work and careful planning for the event.

• The Agenda

This part is just as important as the time of it all. You need to make sure that everything goes according to plan. And just when your plan fails, you need to have a plan B. When your party or event happens to go wrong along the line, your plan B will save you. In my experience, I improvise to make sure that the event will stay afloat and that everyone believes that I have it under control no matter the circumstances.

Also, before everything, you need to fill up the event with a bunch of programs. Stuff of what people should expect or what they can do during the event is happening. This way, your guests or people who joined this event will be entertained throughout and stays longer till the end of the event.

• Drop the curtains

This part of the event is special. It's the part that everyone will know that it ends and it ends well. But before they leave and say goodbye to the hosts or organizers (or in large events, they just leave), its usually the perfect time to get some interesting feedbacks and give them the best farewell impression that they will never forget. For example, before they leave the event, the master ceremony/hosts/organizers, will ask the audience to kindly fill up a feedback form on the way out or ask them a question or two before they leave. It's not mandatory though and usually you won't get the best answer or feedback or even worse, none at all.

So for every successful form filled and submitted, each one will receive some sort of going away present. This usually comes in a small box of random cheap items but still it has value for something that they barely do anything. I mean just for filling up a feedback form, you get a pen, notebook and mug! But that's not all! If you are smart enough, these are useful as a promotional tool to keep their mind aware, that such a company or event or product or service exist.

A Step to Your Successful Website

Well I have been a freelancing web developer for quite some time now. But unfortunately, there are no projects that are willing to let me do one to fill up a portfolio of my work. So in that case, I'm going to get myself a portfolio out of my own allowance. Trust me when I say, it's a painful investment to make but a wise one still. So in the meantime while building at least one website to prove to everyone (employers, visitors, project hosts, etc) that I am capable of performing such a task.

So for this post, I will be explaining how I actually design the structure of a website and how I develop it in order to bring in traffic. Mind you, the work may take weeks since I'm a one man operation and depending on the priority and detail the project may be. About several months ago, before I graduate, I was looking at other websites for more inspirations and how they manage to create such fantastic designs as well as intriguing content. And then I stumbled upon a blog called "AI Alex". That blog is very resourceful for every web entrepreneurs and designers to look into. If you are one, I'd recommend this site to you.

As I read his posts, I found one very interesting and I wanted to share it with you about the successful formula for creating a website. It's easier said than done when you have to learn all the PHP, Apache, MYSQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, and the use of third party softwares to design the site. You can read them all on books and articles but if you have no idea practically but understands how I work, that's where you can hire me to do it for you. I design, develop and make sure that it is optimized and user friendly for your users and visitors to navigate around your website. Content? That would be charged extra as a consultant to make sure that it is Search Engine Optimized(SEO) to get better Search Engine Rank Page (SERP). I may be asking a lot but your customers aren't always the one closes to you. When you set your business into an online world, your reaching for customers globally, so the kind of investment you put into your new website is actually worth it. But it depends on how well you are going to manage it though.

Bruneian Dollar has joined a Blogging Contest

So as I go around blogwalking, I found something interesting and I should have done it a long time ago. Entering a blog contest. Sure it may be degrading to see that a blogger who just wants to blog about something he is passion about but what's the harm in actually earn something while blogging? Now I post up several posts before about it monetizing your website or earning an online income, this is another method of earning an income. Now it's hard to tell if they are secured nor authenticated to actually enter. But hey, you're not really losing anything in the end. Except your time and effort but still nothing serious.

So here are the contests that I have joined:

• And at David Shaw Blog contest

Now of course according to the rules, I have to post an entry about the contest. If you want to join in as well, sure but you're gonna need a blog at least and have some knowledge on writing skills, promotional skills, online monetization and RSS Feeds. It gets to be a pain to learn it all in one go now. So don't rush it. Just take your time to learn it all and then take another contest opportunity. That is if you are up for it.

Basically what the contest requires is to submit to the RSS feed of their blog(s) to keep yourself updated for the contest via Google Reader. Then you write a post about them to show that you actually do own that blog. Next, I have no idea yet but it has something to do with promotions and monetization. Either way, I am really going to do my best about this contest and hopefully, I will win it fair and square. And even if I don't win, at least I learn a lesson or a thing or two about being a better blogger through an online contest. And there's always a next time too :)

Anyways, wish me luck as probably the first Bruneian Blogger to actually win a blogging contest online. Or was there anyone out there that I have yet know of? o.O

10 Jobs that 'O' level graduates can get high pay!

So what's the deal with jobs now a days? Somehow I found out that the most or somewhat average job out there requires no more than the average 'O' level graduate. Disagree? Well let's review.

I came across this article by Michael Kling from Yahoo! Finance and this is what he said.

You don't have to go to college earn a decent living. Some professions pay good salaries without requiring post-secondary schooling.

A college degree can be a great path towards a well-paying, satisfying profession, but a bachelor's degree isn't for everyone. In fact, some see advanced education as overrated. A surge in the number of college graduates have dampened the value of a college education. College comes intact with high tuition, room and board, and supplies fees - and that's not even factoring in debt payments that usually last for years, if not decades.

Trusting the 'Net

Beware of online lists of top-paying professions with little schooling. Some lists cite obscure professions or ones requiring long-term on-the-job training. Just because a profession doesn't officially require a degree is no indicator that and education wouldn't be advantageous, especially for inexperienced applicants in today's competitive job market.

Your New Career

Here's a list of top-paying jobs requiring little schooling, and their median annual earnings as of 2006, using the latest data available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Keep in mind that these jobs have their own challenges and often require some type of specialized schooling - sometimes on-the-job training.

1. Air Traffic Controllers: $117,200 

These workers make sure airplanes land and take off safely, and they typically top lists of this nature. The median 50% earned between $86,860-142,210, with good benefits. Air traffic controllers are eligible to retire at age 50 with 20 years of service, or after 25 years at any age. Watching blinking dots on a radar screen that control the lives of hundreds can be stressful, and the job require specialized FAA schooling and on-the-job training. Typically, two to four years of training are needed in order to become fully certified, although previous military experience can cut that time down significantly.

2. Industrial Production Managers: $77,670 

They oversee manufacturing activities. A college degree is preferred, but not necessarily mandatory. They often work in industries such as aviation and automobiles.

3. First-Line Police and Detective Supervisors: $69,300 

Police officers can advance through the ranks to become supervisors by passing exams and achieving good performance reviews, and advanced training can help win promotions.

4. Funeral Director: $49,620 

College programs in mortuary science usually last from two to four years. You typically must also serve a one-year apprenticeship, pass an exam and obtain a state license. Hours can be long and irregular. Dealing with dead bodies and crying relatives isn't for everyone.

5. Police and Sheriff Patrol Officers: $47,460 

Police corporals had an average minimum annual base salary of $44,160, according to the International City-County Management Association. But total income can significantly exceed base salary because of overtime pay. And police officers can often retire at half-pay after 25-30 years of service. Applicants usually must have at least a high school education, and some departments require a year or two of college or even a degree. Rookies are trained at police academies.

6. Advertising Sales Agents: $42,750 

20% have a high school degree or less, and 10% have an Associate's degree.

7. Real Estate Brokers and Sales Agents: $39,760 

Don't let that figure fool you; the highest 10% earned more than $111,500. While advanced coursework is not necessarily required, new entrants must pass an exam and get a state license. Connections in the community and a willingness to work hard are what really count, but experience and a good housing market also help.

8. Occupational Therapist Assistants: $42,060 

These workers usually need an associate degree or a certificate. They work with occupational therapists, helping injured patients recover from, or compensate for, lost motor skills. Job prospects are good in the growing health care field, especially for those with some post-secondary education.

9. Occupational Therapist Aides: $25,000 

These employees receive most training on the job. Under supervision of occupational therapists, they also work with injured people. Competition for jobs is tougher for those with only a high school diploma.

10. Physical Therapist Assistants: $41,360 

These workers deal with physical therapists, helping patents improve mobility, relieve pain or overcome injuries or disabilities. Those working in home health care services tend to make more on average. Aides, earning an average of $22,000, are trained on the job. Assistants, who have greater responsibilities, typically need an associate's degree.

The Bottom Line

Despite a recession, plenty of career paths can lead to well-paying professions without spending four years or more hitting the books, including opportunities in law enforcement, health care and sales. The goal is to find a job that matches your own particular talents and preferences in addition to supporting your lifestyle.

I totally agree. However the the figures and the jobs in that top 10 list is only referring to America. Though as much as I figured, about a few of these jobs are available here in Brunei as well. But the figures next to it is a little bit lower than that though. And even then, 'O' level graduates can still find a proper job in this country. The 10 job listed above is just a few of them. There are more out there and its your "job" to find them.

Blogging: Lesson 3 The Golden Rule

Remember this golden rule when you write up your new entries or posts to your blog:

"Content is King" - Blogosphere

Your content should be treated like a king. Keeping your king satisfied by providing it with new content and that's what Ranoadidas and other probloggers did. But why would someone else that is not in a social news industry into blogging would keep their content happy? Because it helps getting your readers to keep coming to your blog whenever there is a new entry. Ranoadidas can do it daily. I can do it too but sometimes, I post on every other day if I'm busy.

Keeping your content fresh and new daily is hard work. Especially if you run into every bloggers problem when blogging. It's a nasty habit and it shouldn't hinder your schedule to write up your next post. It's called "Blogger's Block". Just like writer's block, bloggers can get stuck in the middle of a post or sometimes they have no idea on what to blog about. There are tips and techniques online to solve that, so you better do your own research on ways to break that blogger's block. But don't misunderstand the meaning of it. It doesn't mean that you can procrastinate your work or even give an excuse because you're lazy to keep your content alive.

So let me share you one little trick or rather an interesting feature that Blogger and possibly other blogging platforms may have as well. It's called "Scheduled Posting". They allow us to post up an entry and schedule it to post on the day that you want that entry to be shown and published on the blog. How do you call this a trick, you ask? Just imagine getting 30 ideas and you write up 30 posts before setting up your blog. You write them, you schedule post them for 1 post on each day for 30 days. Easy, ain't it? This way you can free up your time and not worry about what to post next on your blog and keeping up with your schedule.

Speaking of schedules, you should set yourself a rule. Like how often would you post your entry? Every other day? Or every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday? Or twice a week? You set your pace however you want. As long as, your content is king.

Blogging: Lesson 2 Resist the tweaks

After going through intensive planning and revising with the Lesson 1 The Basics, you are ready for your next step but its going to be a challenge for you.

When I mean you successfully set up your blog, I mean you have already post at least 2 entries and tweaking your theme or layout of your blog to suit your blogging needs. Keep it simple. You'll tweak it again but not after the second post at least. So here's the challenge.

Right after you successfully tweak, change, edit your layout and post your second entry, do not tweak you blog for a whole month. That means 30 days without tweaking. I know how much you like to tweak and experiment new gadgets and widgets with your new blog that you can manage online (hehehe, just like a kid getting duit raya xD), but this is a test and challenge to you.

So with the next 30 days you only have 3 things to do:

1. Post more entries.
2. Heavily advertise your blog. Tell your family and friends about it.
3. Do not tweak your blog at any time for 30 days.

The reason why is to actually help you focus on providing more content to your blog and also advertising your blog may take a lot of time and effort to bring popularity to your audience. People wanna see how well you manage to keep your content alive and not by its outer appearance. Themes and layout do say something about the blog but it is not enough when it comes to content.

There are loads of marketing techniques out there. You can do it physically by telling others about your blog through business cards, social networking and the probably the occasional "word of mouth" through your peers to another. Whatever promotion, advertising and marketing techniques it is, it needs to be effective and efficient to bring in readers to read your content.

Blogging: Lesson 1 The Basics

Everyone would like to make some money. And of course, to get some money you need to earn it through working. But what's the easiest and simplest form of work to earn online? Blogging. Just like the heading of this post, it's a great starting point for all writers, no matter what the qualification that they possess.

Blogging is a form of a web log (web + log = blog. Go figure.) It comes in many kinds as well after it was introduced several years ago. The different kinds of blogging may include: Vlog (video + log), Photoblog (Mostly pictures + blog), MP3 Blog (Providing composed music or downloaded ones and posting entries), Art Blog (Actual hand-made art figures and blogging), etc.

Anyone can do any of them, provided they have the skills. Taking for example the infamous Ranoadidas.com. From the looks of it, it came out as a simple photoblog. By taking pictures of the current news and then provide opinions and updates as well as promotions to the lucky ones who manage to be included in his photoblog. Since its not really the newspaper media, Ranoadidas can only perform the most notable events that is happening in Brunei. Its quite troublesome for just an individual but still a very sound idea nevertheless.

But let's get back to blogging. Since you won't need to buy any other equipment (like photoblogs require you to take a picture with a camera for better content or musical instruments to actually compose songs and then post entries on a MP3 Blog), blogging is the simplest task to anyone. So to know what you need before you can start, you can take a look at my previous post, Freelance: Ghostwriting.

To set up a blog is simple and free. There are lots of blogging platform on the Internet and it is of your choice to pick one that suits you. So do your research and find out which blogging platform is best for you. Though at the moment, I'm using Blogger's platform (previously known as Blogspot, but after being bought by Google, it was later then renamed to Blogger.) and its services has so far served me well.

But before to even set up a blog, you need to know and set up what is the main purpose of the blog or theme. Its not that you want to set up a blog and hope that money rolls in. Its another type of job except you wont get paid until your blog has been realized by incoming readers through traffic. And that should be your main goal. Getting readers.

Whatever purpose or theme that your blog may be, you would need to know where you can get your sources from. This is necessary for planning before setting up your blog in the first place. E.g. my blog, The Bruneian Dollar, is a site about wealth. My main goal is to get as many readers from the Brunei public. But I keep to my theme about wealth. Sources I get is through Internet marketing, Social networking, books, journals and newspapers. This way I get to keep writing more contents and keep my readers excited for more. It worked, didn't it?

Next you need to know about your target market. Who is your target audience? Is your blog meant for everyone or for the selected demographics? Whoever it is, you need to be sure that your blog sends the right message, medium and level of communication with them.

So why don't you start with this as your starting point? Find your true calling. What kind of blog should it be? What's the theme? It's goal? What do you like to write about? Who's it for? There will be more on this later on. So stay tuned.
